Why It's Important to Know the Feed Rate of Your Constant Speed Molder

Ensures Proper Operation
If sprockets or chains are worn out, mismatched, or incorrectly installed, your feed system may slip, bind, or fail. These issues cause inconsistent cuts or damage to the molder.
Prevents Damage to Raised Panels
Some profiles (like raised panels) require slower feed rates to avoid rubbing or scarring. Using the correct gearbox or upgrade kit prevents these issues.
Makes Repairs & Upgrades Easier
Understanding what parts your gearbox uses helps you order the correct replacements and guarantees compatibility with upgrades.
Supports Troubleshooting
When contacting support, knowing whether you have a 15 FPM, 11 FPM, or a raised panel kit helps us diagnose issues quickly and correctly.

How to Identify Your Gearbox Speed

Older Williams & Hussey molders use a constant feed gearbox to control how fast wood feeds through the machine. This feed rate directly affects the quality of your cuts and how your machine performs with different types of profiles. Whether running standard trim or complex raised panels, knowing your feed system is essential for accuracy, safety, and efficiency.

You can identify your gearbox by checking the sprocket tooth count and chain pitch. These determine the feed rate your machine is set to.

This version provides a slower 11 FPM feed rate. It's useful when working with harder woods or more detailed profiles where slower feed speeds reduce tear-out.

Components:

  • (1) P-155: Infeed Chain, #25, 30-pitch (short)
  • (1) P-156: Outfeed Chain, #25, 56-pitch (long)
  • (2) P-150: 12-Tooth Drive Sprockets (inside chain guard)
  • (2) P-111: 15-Tooth Feed Roll Sprockets (one on each feed roll)

This is the standard gearbox for many Williams & Hussey molders. It delivers a constant feed rate of 15 FPM.

Components:

  • (1) P-112: Infeed Chain, #25, 32-pitch (short)
  • (1) P-212: Outfeed Chain, #25, 58-pitch (long)
  • (2) P-110: 16-Tooth Drive Sprockets (inside chain guard)
  • (2) P-111: 15-Tooth Feed Roll Sprockets (one on each feed roll)

If you're molding raised panel doors and your machine has the 15 FPM gearbox, you may need the Raised Panel Kit. The original chains sometimes rub against the raised section of the panel. This kit includes smaller sprockets and adjusted chain lengths to solve that issue.

Note: This kit is not needed if you already have the 11 FPM gearbox.

Components:

  • (1) P-155: Infeed Chain, #25, 30-pitch (short)
  • (1) P-156: Outfeed Chain, #25, 56-pitch (long)
  • (2) P-153: 14-Tooth Drive Sprockets (inside chain guard)
  • (2) P-152: 13-Tooth Feed Roll Sprockets (one on each feed roll)
