Description

Curved and Elliptical Molding Made Easy

Transform your Williams & Hussey Molder into a powerful shaping tool with the Elliptical Jig. Designed for precision, safety, and repeatability, this jig allows you to craft curved and elliptical moldings with ease. Create high-end architectural trim, custom cabinetry, and restoration work.

This Elliptical Jig features a CNC-routed HDPE plastic table and installs quickly with two bolts. It is compatible with all Williams & Hussey Molder models.

Whether you’re looking for more than a standard arch cut or need elliptical moldings large enough to span doors and windows, the jig is the solution your shop needs.

Purpose

This jig expands your molding capabilities far beyond straight runs. Use it to create curved details that would otherwise require time-consuming handwork or costly custom setups.

  • Enables the production of curved and elliptical moldings in custom sizes
  • Offers a smoother, more efficient alternative to hand-shaping arched trim pieces
  • Facilitates detailed work for high-end millwork, cabinetry, and restoration projects
  • Built to deliver precision, safety, and repeatability across multiple applications

Common Usage

Whether you specialize in trim carpentry, furniture making, or restoration work, this jig helps you produce smooth, curved cuts with accuracy and ease. Here are some typical use cases:

  • Doors & Windows – Cuts elliptical and curved casings to match custom openings
  • Furniture & Cabinetry – Adds elegant, arched detailing to fine woodworking projects
  • Architectural Paneling – Creates elliptical top panels or arched moldings for walls and built-ins
  • Custom Millwork – Supports curved trim applications for high-end restoration or specialty design
  • Commercial Projects – Ideal for contractors needing consistent results on arched moldings

Key Features

Engineered with quality and performance in mind, the Elliptical Jig offers versatility and durability that professionals demand. Key design elements include:

  • Compatible with all Williams & Hussey Molder models
  • Constructed from heavy-duty steel for long-term durability
  • Adjustable to accommodate various radii and moldings up to 6-1/2″ wide
  • Includes floating and fixed bearing system for secure stock handling
  • Supports fast, repeatable setup—swap with the molder table using existing mounting points

Cutting Process & Stock Preparation

To create elliptical moldings, the jig uses a custom-made MDF template to guide your pre-shaped stock along the cutterhead. The template follows the bearing system for a smooth, accurate cut.

  • Use a template and stock that are cut to the same width as your knife profile
  • Secure the stock to the template using countersunk screws
  • Allow for a 4-inch lead-in and lead-out on both ends of the stock for clean entry and exit
  • The minimum stock length is 9 inches
  • The jig includes two fixed bearing positions to support wider stock
  • For best results, position the inside radius of your workpiece on the open side of the machine

Setup Tips

Proper installation ensures safe operation and optimal results. The following steps outline how to set up the Elliptical Jig on your molder:

  • Disconnect power before setup
  • Remove the standard molder table and chip deflector
  • Position the jig over the arbor and secure it to the molder bed
  • Adjust bearing pressure using the included Acme screw system
  • Set cutterhead height based on template + jig + stock thickness (e.g., 1.75″)
  • Always spin the arbor by hand before the operation to check the clearance

Compatibility & Installation Notice

IMPORTANT:

The Elliptical Jig replaces the standard tabletop and attaches to the molder using two pre-drilled holes in the molder bed.
If your molder bed does not have these holes, you will need the Hardware Bag for Elliptical Jig & Guide Systems for proper installation. If needed, be sure to add the hardware bag to your shopping cart.
